Crystal Mountain
Novenmber 5, 2000
For our monthly Rising Sun trail run, we would be going up Crystal Mountain, which is in the foothills west of Loveland. Kevin Ehrlick would be our trail leader. The weather turned nasty that morning, with snow up high and wind-driven rain down low, along with scudding clouds and fog. What a day for wheeling! We met at the Target parking lot just off I-25 in Loveland, and off we went west through town, winding up the mountain roads to the trailhead.
Kevin's "mostly stock" FJ62 is at the front, as we air down and lock in. Rob Meredith's 1960 FJ25 is behind him, and behind that is a stray 1997 HZJ75 we picked up along the way.
Scott Brown's sweet yellow FJ40, followed by The Miller's sprung over 60, a there's a stock 62, and a couple of minis.
We gather and discuss the weather and the upcoming challenges of the trail. From left, Scott Brown, Bruce Miller, Kevin Ehrlick, Alex Bingham, James Bingham, Scott Yoder.
Rob Meredith's FJ25 heads up the icy trail.
Bruce Miller's sprung over and locked FJ60 catches air on the first serious obstacle.
His facial expression is one of confident concentration.
Next is John's turn in his stock FJ62.
Bruce Westlund pilots Jethro over the ledge.
Scott Brown approaches the next obstacle.
Bruce Miller catches some serious air!
Kevin searches for a line on the next ledge.
Scott Yoder navigates the ledge in his 2000 4Runner.
Scott Brown has no problem in his locked 40 with 35 M/Ts.
James negotiates the best line, ever so close to a hungry tree!
Scott Brown takes it a little wider.
As expected, Bruce Miller just walks right up.
This is what we call an "oops". Jethro's half door swung open, dumping Bruce and Chrissy's stuff all over the trail!
After stowing everything back in the cruiser, and securing the door, Bruce makes another run at it.
That stray HZJ75 makes it to the top of the mountain.
